The effects are always minimized in the verbiage that is used. The side effects are not just in pregnant women, it is just that the side effects are more evident in pregnant women or in newborns.
Trust me and trust the others who warn you, taking any kind of prescription medication can have dangerous side effects. Do not be quick to go to the pharmacy just to clear your skin up. When you get older, it will clear up on its own. Also, try a change in diet and increased cardio exercises. Try to eat/drink a lot less high fructose corn syrup.
